Arabesque wallpaper designed by Réveillon in 1789 (drawing #692) on hand brushed pale blue background. Wood-block printed by Jacquemart et Bénard, successors of Reveillon.
Manufacturer’s stamp “RJB” and hand-written “11 Messidor”, Revolutionary calendar dating, appear at bottom of paper, indicating post-1792 production. This feature originally at bottom of paper is now on back of panel.
Excellent, never mounted to wall. Lined on linen canvas and stretcher, with frame.
Also, this same décor, on a white background, was used in the master bedroom of the historic Phelps Hatheway house in Suffield, Connecticut, USA.
One version of this paper is in the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
