Les Chasses de Compiègne – The Picnic

H. 2,25 x L. 2,75 m (H. 7’5″ x W. 9′)
Panoramic commissioned from the painter Carle Vernet, a specialist in horse and hunting scenes (it is the only known panoramic to have been designed by this artist).
Printed by Jacquemart, successor of Réveillon. Paris, 1812-1815.

A version of “Les Chasses de Compiègne” is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and one in the Musée de la chasse, Paris.

Exceptional provenance: private collection of Jean Zuber, founder of the Manufacture Zuber and rival of Jacquemart. These panels were installed in the dining room of the “Commanderie”, Mr. Zuber’s personal residence in Rixheim, Alsace, until they were sold by the family’s descendants.
